ROOTIZEN · LEGAL

Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 2026

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Miguel Ernesto Cisnero de la Cruz (“we,” “our,” or “us”) handles information when you use Rootizen (“the app”) and this website. Rootizen is a study aid for the U.S. naturalization civics test. The app does not require an account, and we do not ask for your name or email address in order to use it.

2. Information we collect

Stored on your device. Your study progress (such as completed quizzes and flashcard results, and accuracy by question category), your preferences (app language, question version, reminder settings), your listening position, your purchase status, and any other data you generate while using the app are stored locally on your device. We do not receive this information unless it is included in the analytics described below.

ZIP code. If you use the “Your Representatives” feature, the ZIP code you enter is sent to our backend service (hosted on Supabase), which forwards it to the 5 Calls API to identify your U.S. House and Senate representatives. The ZIP code is not linked to a name, email address, or account.

Anonymous usage analytics. Unless you turn it off in Preferences, the app uses PostHog to record how features are used, for example when a quiz or flashcard session starts or finishes, when the paywall is shown, and the outcome of a purchase attempt. Events include general properties such as app language, question version, whether Rootizen Plus is active, app version, and device and operating-system type. Events are associated with a randomly generated identifier, not your name or email. We do not record the content of your answers.

Support messages. If you contact us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include in your message.

Website. Rootizen website does not use cookies, analytics, or server logs.

We do not collect your contacts, precise location, photos, or advertising identifier, and Rootizen does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.

3. How information is used

4. Notifications

If you enable study reminders, Rootizen schedules local notifications on your device at the time you choose. These are generated on your device and do not require a push notification server or any personal information from you. You can change or disable reminders in the app or in your device’s notification settings at any time.

5. Purchases

Rootizen Plus is a one time in-app purchase processed by Apple. Payment details are handled entirely by Apple and are never provided to us. The app checks your purchase entitlement through Apple’s StoreKit to unlock features and to restore purchases. See Apple’s Privacy Policy for how Apple handles purchase information.

6. Sharing and service providers

We share information only with service providers that help us operate the app:

We do not sell personal information or use it for third-party advertising. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights and users’ safety.

7. Data retention and deletion

Data stored on your device remains until you delete the app or its data. Analytics data is retained in PostHog for 12 months and then deleted. ZIP codes are not stored in your profile because the app has no accounts; see section 2 regarding backend logs. Support emails are retained as long as needed to resolve your request. To request deletion of information we hold, contact us at the address below. Because analytics use a random identifier rather than your name or email, we may ask for the identifier shown in the app, if available, to locate your data.

8. Your choices and rights

You can turn off analytics in the app under Preferences, disable notifications in your device settings, and delete local data by deleting the app. Depending on where you live (for example, California or the European Economic Area), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of your personal information. To exercise these rights, contact us using the details below.

9. Children’s privacy

Rootizen is designed for adults preparing for the U.S. naturalization test and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Security and changes

We use reasonable technical measures, including encrypted connections and restricted access to our backend, to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or on this website.
